I commenced studying externally through Charles Darwin University in July 2009. I took a hiatus while I recovered from brain surgery in 2013. I completed my studies in July 2018.
I chose a middle school focus as I have always related well to teenagers and I understand that this is a crucial time in their development. Their focus is changing from their family to their peers and other adult mentors during this time and my aim is to help them navigate this time of physical, social and emotional change.
I completed electives in Mathematics, Science and Information & Communication Technology as I have always held a special interest in them. In 1996, I completed a short course through the University of New England in astronomy. This complements my science teaching skills.
Prior to my career in education, I practiced as an enrolled nurse from 1986 to 2013, equipping me with valuable skills applicable to teaching Health. From 2002 to 2005, I owned and operated a café and catering business, which sparked my interest in food technologies and is what encourages me to teach Home Economics in the future.
Outside of the classroom, I love to bake biscuits and cakes. I design websites and other professional documents. I am the webmaster and designer of the Kimba show website (www.kimbashow.com.au!
